"The Lawyers Guild Show" features a discussion with Christian Appy, the
author of "Patriots: The Vietnam War Remembered From All Sides." According
to Studs Terkel, "Of all the works on the Vietnam War--fiction and non-fiction--this
is the big one." The book consists of 135 interviews with soldiers from
North and South Vietnam and the United States, as well as journalists,
anti-war activists, and such notable Vietnam-era figures as General Westmoreland,
Daniel Elsberg, Robert McNamara, and Alexander Haig. One interview is with
LA/NLG Chapter Executive Director, James Lafferty, on his work as a draft
lawyer during Vietnam.

scholar and noted civil liberties attorney David Cole. Cole is one of a

of the attorneys for the "L.A. 8", will discuss the failed 16-year effort
to deport 8 mid-East activists and the Justice Department announcement
this week that they will now re-indict, and seek to deport, two of the
eight under the U.S.A. Patriot Act, for alleged conduct occurring over
16 years ago; then Kelly Hayes-Raitt will report on her most recent trip
to Iraq and the conditions of the Iraqi people; and, finally, Muono Coobtee
of the Free Palestine Alliance, will discuss the reasons behind the September
28th world-wide marches and rallies calling for an end to the U.S. occupation
of Iraq and the end of U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian
territories. One of these marches and rallies will take place here in Los
Angeles, assembling at Hollywood and Vine at 12:00 Noon.

to "don't mourn, organize!" Professor Anne Brodsky of the University of
Maryland will discuss the on-going war and suppression of women in Afghanistan
and the effort of Afghan women to fight their continuing oppression; Professor
Peter Erlinder of the William Mitchell College of Law in Minnesota will
discuss the loss of civil liberties since 9/11 and the growing movement
of cities and states calling for the repeal of the U.S. Patriot Act; and
Jerry Gordon, long-time anti-war activist and head of the Cleveland Coalition
to End the War in Iraq, will discuss the on-going occupation of Iraq and
the on-going movement in the U.S. and around the world to force an end
to that occupation.
